The Internet - Cocaine

Odd Future member DJ Syd tha Kid and close producer affiliate Matt Martians have branched away momentarily with this side project titled simply The Internet. "Cocaine" features Left Brain and will be on The Internet's first full length EP Purple Naked Ladies.

Doldrums - Endless Winter

Here are the visuals for the Clams Casino produced "Demons" off of LiveLoveA$AP.

Muh' fuckas is pretty.

Beach House - Take Care

The original Take Care.

To my future wife though....

Pallers - Nights

The synth pop duo went back to the basics of Heartbreak 101 with their debut album, Sea of Memories. The 10 track EP is an emotional roller coaster that is very well put together. The production is crispy clean but it is filled with lots of subtle, dark moments, which works out well. Each and every song hints at regret and reminiscent times, lowkey obsessing at the past. Fortunately, these fools discover a way to accompany the break up with quite a beautiful and unique sound rather than a whiny rant. "Nights" is rightfully the last track on the album.

Lately I've had an obsession with covers of American Tunes in foreign languages. This one is a Gold mine. There's probably a cover of this song in at least 50 languages. Novelty is an illusion, truth will kill you if you're not quick enough and love is another word for change. PEACE.

Sight & Sound’s Best Films of 2011

Come December, you can catch me at a movie theatre. Sight & Sound magazine have revealed their top ten list, which comes from 100 different critics, who all submitted their personal top five.  The Tree of Life was the landslide favorite of the critics, more than doubling it's first runner up in first place votes.  Off top, it is probably my first choice too.  Award season is always interesting and often controversial, but the list below should prepare you a little bit.

1. The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick)
2. A Separation (Asghar Farhadi)
3. The Kid With a Bike (Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne)
4. Melancholia (Lars von Trier)
5. The Artist (Michel Hazanavicius)
(tie) 6. Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (Nuri Bilge Ceylan)
(tie) 6. The Turin Horse (Béla Tarr)
8. We Need to Talk About Kevin (Lynne Ramsay)
9. Le Quattro Volte (Michelangelo Frammartino)
(tie) 10. This Is Not a Film (Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmash)
(tie) 10. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Tomas Alfredson)

for those questioning where the more populist, less arthouse flavor is, James revealed that Attack the Block and Kill List both narrowly missed the list

Florence and the Machine - Take Care (BBCR1 Live Lounge Cover)

I was slightly disappointed by this track on Drake's album.  When I heard Jamie xx was going to be producing for the album I figured that it would be an original work rather than something sampled from We're New Here.  But once the disappointment wore off I could appreciate the track for what it was.  But this is amazing.  Florence and the Machine recorded this at the BBC radio 1 live lounge.

Oliver Tank - Dreams EP

Figured I follow through with this post for those of you who liked my original a few days back.  Here is Oliver Tank's début release, Dreams, that dropped yesterday.  Available for free (pay as you wish) on his bandcamp.

Julia Holter - Try To Make Yourself A Work Of Art

For everyone that typically glosses over my long discursive ramblings that I have a propensity to post here, I understand.  But please, read below.  This is the most intriguing project I have come across in some time. The excerpt below is taken from a FACT magazine review of Julia Holter's new album Tragedy.  If you are intrigued, please read the whole thing here and check out the album.  It is amazing on an artistic level.  It is definitely something that takes an active listen.

Conceptually rooted around an atmospheric “interpretation”of Euripides’ Hippolytus with an introduction, interlude and finale, Tragedy utilises voice, synths, drum machines, piano, cello, saxophone, samples, vocoders, ensemble musicians [CalArts New Century Players] and a chorus. Most lyrics are lifted directly from sections of the play (listed in narrative order) but “positioned by an aural logic rather than in the chronological order”.
Check out more tracks from the album after the jump.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Thuggin' EP

After last Friday's performance in S.F., 500 copies of  Thuggin' were sold to those in attendance.  I've been patiently waiting all weekend for this to be made available to the general public and now the EP has seen the light of day over at Stonesthrow.  The EP contains two main vocal tracks, accompanying instrumentals, and two additional beats.  Supposedly, there is a full album in the works.  Check out the title track below.

Previous: Cults - Bad Things (Remix) featuring Freddie Gibbs

Darkside - Darkside EP

The product of Nicolas Jaar (check out his Space is Only Noise project that came out in January) and Dave Harrington, Darkside is driven by driving Guitars, haunting lyrics, and simple loops.  It has something of a minimalistic beauty to it that is quite enjoyable.  I have found myself gravitating back to this stream for the past few days now and just letting the whole thing play through.  The Darkside Ep is out now on Jaar's label, Clown and Sunset.

Azealia Banks - 212 featuring Lazy Jay

I am aware that this is slightly dated.  Back in September, Azealia Banks released the video for this spastic somewhat crude joint and it immediately began spreading like wildfire.  However, shortly after the video was posted, it was taken down due to a dispute over the backing instrumentals which Azealia took from Lazy Jay's song Float My Boat.  Which is right around the time that I came across the mp3 for the track.  Hence, I never knew a video existed until a little while ago when it was re-released crediting Lazy Jay.  Anyway, now that I've explained all that enjoy.  Check out the Jacques Greene cameo.

Radiohead - Bloom (Jamiexx Rework Part 3)

So I have been listening to this track (or an early derivation of it) for the last two weeks or so billed as the Jamie xx Club mix.  Granted there are an added three minutes but I think that is due to the fact that it was ripped from a Thom York BBC mix.  Its not necessarily a new track but I am glad that I'll have an mp3 and that I no longer have to listen to the youtube rip that has facebook chat sounds popping up periodically.  Either way, I like this version a lot more than the one on the Tkol remix album.

Drake – Over My Dead Body (Star Slinger Remix)

Star Slinger is among the first to take on Take Care.

Double decker bus swag. Too much for me. Check out G-Side's new album below. If you only have time for one track please listen to "Atmosphere." See the Stalley feature as well (Gettin' It, track 11 - yes that is a Too Short rework at the end).

Anthony Atcherley

Atcherley's Paris Baby! EP (the title track is below) came out in mid September on So French Records. The bottom track is a recent remix. Just a little something to grove to.
Anthony Atcherley - Paris Baby! by Anthony Atcherley

Justice - New Lands(Anthony Atcherley rmx) by Anthony Atcherley

Keep Shelly in Athens - California Birds

I haven't jumped on the bandwagon that is Keep Shelly in Athens as I'm not sure I like everything they put out.  But I do like this track (which is a cover of an Abadabad track) that appeared on their  new Forest Family 12″ EP Our Own Dream. Further, I think this video is beautifully shot and edited.

Knxwledge - Konsistensi.EP

No secret here.  This man is as prolific as he is talented.  Check out his production on Blu's NoYork! and Jesus albums.  This is his most recent tape released on his bandcamp about a week ago and I'll say that I have been thoroughly enjoying it since it dropped.

Julio Bashmore - Well Wishers [Radio Rip]

Julio Bashmore's forthcoming release on Futureboogie Recordings. It's a double A-Side EP that "pays homage to the house coming out of Paris in the mid 90s". the EP drops on December 19.

JMSN - Alone (Kno Remix)

"After hitting up CunninLynguists’ producer Kno for an exclusive remix of Maroon 5’s Goodnight Goodnight that eventually ended up being cut from their 2008 remix album Call & Response due to sample clearance issues, Brandon Phelps at Variable Entertainment, this time with up-and-coming Detroit singer/producer JMSN (pronounced Jameson), reaches out to Kno again for an exclusive re-work of JMSN’s single Alone. JMSN’s album †Priscilla† drops 1.11.12."
JMSN - Alone (Kno Remix) by iamjmsn

Feist - How Come You Never Go There

Her live rendition of this on David Letterman (pretty amazing check out the horns) with Mountain Man singing backup was shown to me by a friend a while back and since then this has quickly become one of my favorite songs off her album, Metals.  For those that don't know, James Blake's Limit to Your Love is a cover of Feist's original (if that gets you to push play then fine).

Cults - Bad Things (Remix) featuring Freddie Gibbs

So, the Cults are releasing a hip hop rework of their début album.  The first track to see the light of day is this Freddie Gibbs assisted track.  I like to see Gibbs stepping out of the usual path (see his feature on the last Cunninglinguists album, his feature on the Self Scientific album, the Mexicans with Guns feature).  He needs to do more tracks like this and less in the Young Jeezy vein.

Jon B - Calling On You

In my opinion, the dopest sample off of Take Care. Cameras, Good Ones Go was co-produced by 40 and the big man himself Aubrey Graham.

Only on camera.....only on camera....

Sade - Sally (Montreux Jazz Festival 1984)

It's a mother fuckin gross day in the 206, so light up a couple scented candles and a couple L's and let this FAMOUS Curren$y sample slap. Ohhh Sally, stop it, you're a dime....

Teebs - Verbena Tea With Rebekah Raff

A cut off the Teebs project, Collection 01, that dropped last week on Brainfeeder. Let this one develop. Patience.

Star Slinger - Dumbin' feat. Reggie B (Diplo Remix)

Diplo got his hands on the UK producer Star Slinger's latest single, "Dumbin'", and crafted a new little something.

MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON, TWO

Marcel The Shell is an oddly hilarious and very absurdist comedic sketch created by Dean Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate.  It's cute, and your girl will like it, but hella of the lines leave u feeling lightweight heavy-hearted (that's not an oxymoron).  Slate, a Saturday Night Live alum, is the voice of Marcel and is creating a children's book about Marcel too.
If you haven't seen the first one, it's after the jump.

Liar - Bass Traitor

Yea, so this project is pretty crazy.  Sampling DMX.  Not a bad look.  Liar's (on Russian Gimmie5 record label, born in Romania) EP Lichborn came out yesterday.  The tracks listed on itunes don't match with the tracklist I've seen, even though I think they are the same tracks.  I'll post the tracklist I have after the jump as well as an album sampler and let this post explain the music:
This nigh-megalomaniacal enterprise translates itself sonically into a highly nebulous, fidgety, seemingly unstable sound, always nearly bursting at the seams, but unwavering in its sense of purpose and narrative continuity. Feral arpeggios race across exquisitely crafted lurching arabesque beatscapes (Ghostride, Bass Traitor), distorted strumming intercepts stillborn pop songs (Upjane, Upjohn), grinding tectonic plates rhythmically demolish and uproot post-dubstep dioramas of sci-fi tragedies (Upghostery, Phylactery). Banshee wails deck the halls of desolate cities, with every subsequent echo struggling for offspring. Recurring themes mirror both recurring dreams and pre-modern composition. Demokracy step up on Upjohn to further enrich this world via their brand of future-retro synth-laden wistfulness and massive invasive beats.

The fidgeting thus emancipates itself to schizoid elegance and controlled chaos. This is especially apparent in the sampling ethos: 70s, 80s, 90s, disco, noughties, rave, hip-hop, RnB, pop, black metal, prog, classical… everything is game for Liar… A cinematic, epic approach to storytelling and progression is the Rosetta stone that normalizes all these different languages into a coherent message. Hence, Liar’s past is fragmented and repurposed amidst his harrowing, claustrophobic present into nighttime visions of the future. The human is expunged, but preserved. Not felt. But not lost. Reality all sums to zero… No reason we can’t have fun with it.
Bass Traitor by Liаr

Salva - Obsession ft. B. Bravo

Voice vocoder, elements of dub bass: its smooth.  The San Francisco producer's Ep, Yellobone, came out yesterday, Nov 15th.  It features a remix of the title track by Shlohmo.  It is an interesting five track listen.
Salva - Obsession ft. B. Bravo by FoFMusic

The Fieldz – Hoodie Season

The Fieldz is a 17-year-old artist out of Virginia (where ain't shit to do but cook).  "I don't know who cooks me or my grandma."  Thanks in large part to the production of Mike B., the first single from the upcoming Brain Junk Food, is hard.  Don't get me wrong, he goes in as well.

Oliver Tank - The Last Time

Cover of his soon to be relased Dreams Ep

Here is a sample from the 21 of November debut project of Australian Oliver Tank that will be released via his bandcamp.  There are definitely elements of James Blake in his style: distorted vocals, cathartic building up, the dub bass (see the track after the jump especially) but there is equally an influence of hazy electronic pop.  Makes for an interesting listen and it is worth keeping an eye out for him.  I've included the the track "What Have I Become" as well.  I'm not sure whether this will be on the Dreams EP.

Oliver Tank - The Last Time by Yes Please

What Have I Become by Oliver Tank

Penguin Prison - Don't Fuck with my Money

Saw this song a while back now.  Poppy with an edge.  Lo and behold, the channel that formally gave a damn about music has the premier of the new video (sorry that it is censored, but what can I do, Mtv has exclusive rights at the moment).  With all the craziness that has been happening in New York these past two days, I felt like this video was appropriate.

Soulja Boy - Conceited

This is one of the most ignorant tracks I have ever heard. It is also one of the most clownin. Throw this on at high volume in a room full of juiced homies and I swear it goes. Soulja at it again with the loud bass and the catchy melodies. I made swag, I invented juice.

I....look....so mother fucking good....

Cities Aviv - Wet Dream

Once again, the Memphis based 22 year old is going over a windows down, blunts lit, summertime beat. Wet Dream is his most recent shit but check out his Digital Lows album, full of plenty noticeable samples, released earlier this year . All of the beats slap in a hazy, drunken sort of way and his spits showcase his loud personality.

Ford and Lopatin With Tamaryn- Flying Dream

Tamaryn / Ford & Lopatin - Flying Dream by Mexican Summer

Mexican Summer squad collaboration: Ford and Lopatin on the chilled out production and fellow label mate Tamaryn with the haunting vocals. Dreams will fly.

Peaking Lights - Marshmellow Yellow / Amazing and Wonderful (Main Attrakionz Remix)

Oakland Rap Duo Main Attrakionz remixes together two Peaking Lights songs "Amazing & Wonderful" and "Marshmallow Yellow." The tracks individually are pretty fresh too. But collectively all at once along with a couple passionate stoner verses make it a hard combo to beat.

Curren$y & Mikey Rocks- Luxury Sport

Spitta Andretti with the newest Jet Life Recordings signee, Mikey Rocks of the Cool Kids over some classic Ghostface. They go in as they handle the raw ass beat with confidence and smooth delivery. Don't think this is gonna be on the Jet Life compilation Jet World Order (11/29) but it can hold you over til then.

Youth Lagoon- Cannons

22 year old Trevor Powers aka Youth Lagoon (Yup, that's not a chick on the vocals) is out with a nostalgic and uplifting debut LP The Year of Hibernation. Most tracks reference childhood that start out with a type of slow motion, whispered harmony and suddenly transform into fresh paper-thin production with lowkey slappin drums. Cannons was my favorite track off of it.

The Antlers- VCR (xx cover)

The Brooklyn based band tweeted their mastered version of the easily likable xx track a couple days back. It is the first song released off of their forthcoming 8-track EP (together) which also boasts a collaborative joint with Neon Indian out 11/22. This cover is super zoned out, a little Washed Out-esque. But the drums and vocals are way on point, creating a little head nod and the urgency to light one up that I didn't get with the original.

Salem - Better Off Alone

Michigan-based goth/noise trio is ready to unveil the follow-up to its divisive debut album, King Night. On November 22, IAMSOUND will be releasing I'm Still in the Night (artwork above), a four-song EP that happens to include a cover of Alice Deejay's 1999 cheese-trance anthem, "Better Off Alone." Salem has gone ahead and put together a video for their version of the song, a clip that centers around footage of Gisele Bündchen and a fleet of paparazzi.

Prince Club - Love Jackson

90's samples continue to reign in populaire.

Sina. - From Love to Dust EP

“From Love To Dust“ is a two side EP of Barry Gordon, Ireland / UK based producer.  Gordon started making music as Sina. in 2009.

The EP features remixes from Switzerland producer Gards From KC, UK beat smith Kelpe, and UK-based producer Soosh, who has had a collab with Gards From KC for Project: Mooncircle earlier this year.

I particularly like track 2, Remembrance, but the whole thing is worth listening to.

 14th - Chimes by 14th
14th are a London based duo.

Blue Daisy - FACT Mix

Sorry no tracklist.  Don't let that deter you though.  Its dark and moody but there are definitely some gems on here.

Hit the jump to read FACT's short bio of the North London producer.  If you like what you hear in the mix, check out his album, The Sunday Gift (I've included one of my favourite tracks after the jump), which follows much in the same vein.

Korallreven- Sa Sa Samoa

Swedish duo Korallreven's debut album is coming out next week on Acephale Records. One of the members plays in The Radio Dept. and the groups share a similar sound, but Korallreven is on a whole different level. One of the best groups doing right now doing the whole ethereal, dreamy, dancey electronic thing.

Twin Sister - Kimmi in a Rice Field (Balam Acab Remix)

Andrea Estrella’s haunting vocals are further accentuated in this Balam Acab remix. Delicate loops and bits of glitches do much to give the track an air of odd-pop harmony. Domino is giving the remix away as a free download, which you can grab via the stream below.

Manzinita - Party Favours EP

o yea.
Manzinita offers up an energetic amalgam of dance-floor tracks with the release of their new EP, Party Favours. Ranges from peak-hour leads and vocals to deeper and at times darker arrangement and execution. This shit is assuredly bangin, fit for the so many parties to be had so snatch it up from the soundcloud link, or their fb page by liking it.

Throwback Thursday

I downloaded this album about three years ago sitting in a PC Bang in Korea. I think I actually discovered Curren$y at that time too. This was the finale of his mixtape series and was quite the exclamation point. Spitta has progressed as a rapper since then but this track is still a favorite.

Vince Staples- Versace Rap (prod. by Michael Uzowuru)

New track from Vince Staples produced by the OF affiliate Michael Uzowuru.  I've liked most things I've heard from Uzowuru and this one continues in that line.

FLorence + The Machine- Remain Nameless

Although I'm not the biggest Florence fan, I was able to fxck with few tracks off her most recent album, Ceremonials. The one gem that ended up on repeat was "Remain Nameless". Heavy drums, some bass and a nice synth to line the track did it for me. Also, lyrically she delivers. I don't think the song is limited to a single meaning so apply yours as you will. Vocally, she's always on point.
The Weeknd crew did their thing and remixed her "Shake it Out" track a month ago. I expect more to follow suit and mix a couple tracks off of Ceremonials. This youtube lyrics video is the best quality audio I could find for embedding. Forgive me

Childish Gambino - Bonfire

From human centipede to Casey Anthony, so much fuego. Camp coming soon...

Zeroh - g r n b a n a n a s

Definitely abstract.  Check out his awfulalterations mixtape (see hippiehop after the jump for a taste of this project) that came out earlier this year.  In that project Zeroh takes beats from the L.A. bass scene and distorts them beyond recognition and then raps over them.

This track was posted on his tumblr a few days ago.  Hit the jump to see some of his older material and a recent tribute he did to Natalie Portman which will give you a better idea of his persona.

Dauwd

Ikopol by Dauwd

This track above is super clean and came out a few weeks ago.  I would (and will) spin it but it's a little bit plain.  I'll be putting some more samples on there.  This guy is the most recent addition to Pictures Music.  Earlier in the month I talked about what would happen to the London label after losing Lapalux to Brainfeeder and Chairman Kato to Awkward Movements.  To me this man Dauwd is pretty dope but doesnt have the hectic originality that Pictures music has been known for (i.e. Koreless, Kato, Lapaulux).  We'll see what else he's got in a tick I guess (the two tracks below are like a year old).
