Stubborn Heart - Knuckledown

Luca Santucci & Ben Fitzgerald from London be droppin em pitch shifted soulful vocals and dance floor drums and seagull noises. They made the track below in 2011 and it's clean up too. Good luck civilian.

Kahn - Margeaux (Part 1)

Out of Bristol, Kahn provides a clean mellow dance track to step to.

Dot - All Mine (Portishead Cover)

Kate Ellwanger aka Dot has been at it again, taking time to cover Portishead's All Mine. It's a track that' is wonderfully seductive and incredibly stylish, a perfect complement to the original. Dot shows off not only her production, but also her classical opera training, as she sings on this one as well.

Michael Haneke on Amour

Michael Haneke talks about his new film, Amour, which premiered at Cannes a few days ago.  The theatre was abuzz with hushed whispers of "masterpiece" when the screening had finished.  Critics are saying that Amour is the favourite to come away with the Palme d'Or.  Such high praise can make me incredulous but with Haneke's body of work, I have no doubt this will be another impressive contribution to his oeuvre.

As a disclaimer, there are scenes from the film in the interview and he talks about the plot somewhat so if you'd like to try, futilely I might add, to preserve your tabula rasa don't watch.

Lazer Sword - Memory

The Monkeytown group is set to embark on a tour of North America featuring their album, Memory, that dropped at the end of April.  That they are under signed under Modeselektor gives you an idea of their approach to music: genre-breaking.  I've tried to capture their breadth of style in the videos after the jump. Woodkid - Run Boy Run

This new song and video by director Yoann Lemoine (stage name Woodkid) is filled with a thunderous spirit that would make the late great Maurice Sendak proud. Album will be out in September. I'm stoked.

Darkside - A1 (Video)

Midas. Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington release the video for their collaboration A1.  If you still haven't checked the EP, see below.

Blawan - Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage

This track is something that's for sure. It is a radio rip of Blawan's recent boiler room set.  No word on a release date.

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice - Bugg'n

A little late on this one.  Came out about ten days ago. Forgiveness.  Anyway, this collaboration between Hudson Mohawke and Lunice is from their forthcoming five track EP entitled TNGHT set to be released on 24 July.

Suzi Analogue – (R)ose (A)lways (W)ins EP

Fresh off her collaboration with Tokimonsta, the Philly native is back with a strong EP. Worth the listen. I'm a fan of track two especially.

Nicolas Jaar - BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

Persons need to be listening to these when they get the chance.  Especially when Nicolas Jaar is on the table.  Saw him in San Francisco.  Amazing show.  Anyway, the guy is a Comp Lit major at Brown and tours in his spare time.  Interesting fellow. If you haven't checked out his numerous projects please delve into our archive.  You're missing out.  Clear out two hours of your day and listen to this. The beginning is captivating. Set list after the jump.

Julio Bashmore - Au Seve

Anyone remember this diddy: Jessie Ware - 110%? That one God always be pluggin Mr. Bashmore.  Thank him for that.  Enjoy the newest.

Jeremiah Jae - Money

The Brainfeeder MC releases a track from his July 24th Raw Money Raps. Act like you know.

Slugabed - Climbing A Tree

Time team is the body of work. Very timely and progressive.

Pariah - Signal Loss

I can't get the sample... it's killin me. Usher maybe? Anyways... give it time. This shit is clean.

AND this shit dropped like a week ago... both are off his new EP.

E-40 Feat. Kendrick Lamar & Droop-E - Catch A Fade

The TDE guys stay busy with K. Dot showing up in some visuals from E-40's latest album. Am I the only one who hasn't listened to a new E-40 or Snoop Dogg album since 2006?

Main Attrakionz - "Greenova To The Top" (Feat. Shady Blaze) [Produced by Friendzone]

This dude Friendzone is crazy to me. He's like 350 lbs or something and hella corny apparently. I fuck wit his beats pretty tough because he make that feel good shit... and I don't even like that feel good shit. "You know you love da sound"
This dropped like a week ago... but I heard muh fuckaz sleeping.

Flying Lotus Live at Coachella

Brainfeeder released this video of Flying Lotus performing at Coachella week 2.  I had the pleasure of catching this same set at Low End Theory a few weeks ago and the dude left me speechless, as usual.  If you're still having a harsh comedown from Coachella or Low End, you should peep this shit, and if you haven't been privileged enough to catch Flylo's live set, you should definitely tune in.

Childish Gambino Feat. ScHoolboy Q - Unnecessary

No comment. I'll update once I get my hands on a dirty version, but I couldn't let that be the reason why I didn't post this burner by two of my favorite artists out right now.

Gold Panda - 'Mountain/Financial District'

Gold Panda had one of the best LP's two years ago with Lucky Shiner and now he's back with a new 7" called 'Mountain/Financial District' due out June 12th, but released digitally today.

Both songs show further development in the sound that that made Lucky Shiner so widely acclaimed and both are wet as fuck.  If you haven't heard of dude yet, get familiar and go'n cop Lucky Shiner.

Mayer Hawthorne - Henny and Gingerale (Video)

Mayer Hawthorne released this new video for 'Henny and Gingerale' off his album How Do You Do that came out last October.  Classic grooves, just in time for Motown Monday.

ndeluv - 1994 (Video)

The Bay Area's own ndeluv dropped this visual to accompany his track "1994" from his latest project #8911.  This dude first impressed me with his last tape #hoodmusic and has been on my radar ever since.  This fool is ready to take his place among some of those young cats that are changing the R&B game right now, and he's got the talent to do it.  This track channels his inner Prince and has got the stylish sexy music video to boot.  If you find yourself a fan, peep the jizza for more.

Kitty Pryde - Okay Cupid (Video)

This is the face and the sound that is going to be the next to explode in the blogosphere.  Kitty Pryde is the name you can't get caught sleeping on.  This video dropped back on Wednesday and she's already been contacted by Diplo to do a track and was featured an article for the New York Times today.  Sounding very much like Kilo Kish, she's got a vibe that's different than most other female rappers in the game right now, with rhymes that are so juvenile in content and a smooth, casual delivery.  So remember the name, cause Kitty Pryde's gonna be around on this internet shit for a minute.

Azealia Banks - Jumanji (Prod. Hudson Mohawke & Nick Hook

Just another heater from Yung Rapunzel... Hudmo and Nick Hook kill it with this beat.

SPACEGHOSTPURRP - THE BLACK GOD

Trap On Acid - RL Grime

RL Grime of Shlohmo's WEDIDIT Collective dropped this shit yesterday and managed to turn a song I hate into a song I love.  He turns Afrojack's club anthem into a trap beat that goes hard.  Imagine them fools in the trap fist pumping to this joint and then go and get the dude's EP 'Grapes.'

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

The Jealous Guys - Love and Other Drugs (Prod. Jay Curry)

The Jealous Guys are a duo out of San Francisco that I just got turned on to and I like the promise.  They're sound is definitely not what you'd associate with Bay Area rap, but its better that way.  This track is sick, Jay Curry kills it on the production and these dudes can write and deliver.

Eight and a Half - Scissors (TOKiMONSTA Remix)

TOKiMONSTA posted a track that was actually released in October to her Soundcloud yesterday, saying : "Did a remix a few months ago for the band Eight and a Half (on Arts & Crafts).  I figured it may still be new to people, so peep."

I recommend you heed her suggestion and scope a classic example of why she's one of the best in the beat game.

Nipsey Hussle feat. Rick Ross - Proud of That

Hard to go wrong with Nipsey and Ricky Rozay.  Twist one up and press play.

Download

Four Tet - Jupiters

Expect a new Four Tet record by the end of the year.  In the meantime he keeps the steady stream of heat flowing.

Previously: Four Tet + Burial - Nova

Steezie Nasa feat. Nacho Picasso - Art of War

This is Steezie Nasa's latest joint and its super dope. Nacho Picasso's on there killin it. Rob Skeets came with some fire too. And this is by far the best Detooz videos yet.

Grimes - 'Genesis' feat. Deniro Farrar (Ryan Hemsworth Remix

Shit came out a few days ago but I slept. Uh Ferrar gases that real.  His whole new shit for download after the jump. Stream Grimes new album here.

Uniporn Mixtape

This shit is just the grimiest noise ever made.  Probably shouldn't even listen to this unless you're raging.  Come back to this post next weekend...

Summer Heart - I Wanna Go

These are the vibes you're lookin for. I found them. Go.

Gigamesh - All My Life EP (preview)

Sounds like a retro-Justice with zoey deschanell or something.  I dono... I think it's good but I'm not quite certain yet.

The Log.Os - λ ό γ ο ς

Some real epic shit thats apparently been out since '11. Shouts out my boy Burka Swish. I'm hyped about this one.

Mayhem Lauren feat. Himanshu - Special Effects

Produced by Harry Fraud. This will be featured on Mayhem Lauren's much anticipated mixtape, Respect The Fly Shit.

RJD2 - June

I can't believe this is ten years old.

Throwback Thursday: 14KT

14KT is a producer/emcee.DJ from Detroit that follows in the tradition of the late great, J Dilla.  He's been in the game for a minute, taking the people to church with that classic D town vibe.  This track isn't a true throwback, being only a few years old, but that classic hip-hop sound is something rare in the game today.  So get nostalgic, post up and treat your ears to some 14KT.

Joey Fatts - 'Blake Griffin'

Joey Fatts is about to explode in the rap game.  This dude started releasing shit this year and everything he's put out is straight fire.  It seems only a matter of time before he makes Long Beach relevant again.  His most recent release is 'Blake Griffin' which offers a beat in the tradition of Lex Luger that straight bangs, and Fatts goes the fuck in on it.  Have a listen below and keep an ear out, cause fools are gonna get caught sleepin on this dude.

Ab-Soul - 'Empathy' (Video)

Not to be outdone by one of his TDE counterparts, Ab-Soul released this video for his track 'Empathy,' a track off his upcoming album Control System.  This track is tight and shows a R&B side of Soulo's skills that the people aren't quite accustomed to, with him showcasing more of his vocal range than the bars we already know he's got.  TDE doesn't seem to produce mediocrity, so be sure to cop Control System when it drops on May 11th.

ScHoolboy Q & TiRon - She Love Me Not (prod. by Chuck Inglish)

Shit, getting these three dudes on one track really is a treat.  ScHoolboy's killing it right now, and TiRon's got serious hype coming his way soon if he can continue to drop high quality material.

Supreme Cuts - Gully (feat. Haleek Maul)

Uh... ok... Haleek Maul... He's 15. He gets beats from Clams Casino too...

He's kinda on some Odd Future swag.  Yea... so, savin out pretty rough. I'm sorry... Keef who?

∂eƒ Sound -'art of stuntin' (Video)

This fool ∂ef Sound released this video for his track 'art of stuntin' yesterday, and its cool animated vibe seem to go well with his bass bangin track.  Joe Merrell on the visuals.

Clu - Evening Ever

Check out this track from Dublin's Clu that is fraught with tension.  Let it build.

Face + Heel - No Stars EP

The founders of the boiler room have called them the next big thing in electronic music.  I have been struggling to find an embedded link for about the last week but lo, I have one and can finally share.  Face + Heel, a Cardiff duo composed of Sinead McMillian and Luke Taylor, will release their No Star EP on 7 May. See both tracks below.  Hit the jump to see their live set at the Boiler Room. Its worth the view to show you why I'm excited to hear what this group puts out.

Kiki Hitomi - Thrown Like Jacks / Venus in Furs

Kiki Hitomi sings the Velvet Underground lyrics over the Evian Christ track from earlier this year.  There is a breathy quality, something ether-esque about her voice, that is wonderfully punctuated when the drums come in.

Hale-Bopp was the Bedouins (Shabazz Palaces Remix)

Shabazz Palaces warps the Heems assisted Lushlife track off Plateau Vision.

Eskmo - 'Glacier'

Eskmo has got a new project on the way called Outliers, Vol. I: Iceland - 2012. Eskmo calls the effort "a collaborative multimedia project about a small group of filmmakers, photographers and a musician who set out on a journey to explore the remote countryside of Iceland in October of 2011, meeting there for the first time. The film features photographers Tim Navis (LA) and Kim Holtermand (Denmark), as well the electronic composer Deru – who composed and curated an original score based on field recordings from the trip." Eskmo, while not on the trip, used the sounds composed and collected by Deru to create 'Glacier' an awesome track that uses exclusively these sounds, with the exceptions of the kicks and synths. Take careful not of these beautiful Icelandic sounds and enjoy.

Thaddeus David - Apprentice

Reppin' the 206, this is Thaddeus David with his new 6-track album, Apprentice. Really loving his flow. It's refreshing to hear lyrics that rhyme as well as Thadd's do, especially with such nice beats to complement them. Gotta show love for 206 hip-hop!

Also, another cut from him I love, Brain Champagne, after the jizza. Love this song/music video.
the jizza
