Devendra Banhart - Für Hildegard von Bingen

Hildegard von Bingen was a Catholic saint who lived in the 12th century who was also a composer, writer, and theologist. In a press release, Banhart says of the song, "In my head there was this little movie, an alternative universe, I guess-- Hildegard is sequestered in her cloister, and one day she gets a VHS cassette and it's the prime era of the MTV VJ, and she just goes wild. 'That’s it for me,' she says. 'That's how I'm going to get my message across.' So she escapes the cloister…and becomes a VJ."

What the fuck? Where did this come from Raider Klan? This is insane.  Phlo Finister is 21 and stays in London. Peep her video for Hotel Miami (track five on the EP) after the jizza, it's amazing... this girl is the truth. I was sleeping... this came out the day the world was supposed to end.

The xx - Sunset (Jamie xx Edit)

I don't know if anyone understands why Jamie doesn't just get loose as fuck on every The XX track.  Why was that album so subdued? This man is one of the world's greatest producers.

Holy Motors

We write about music and videos mostly on here, but the platform remains for other noteworthy pieces art in general.  I've just finished watching Holy Motors and I might be ready to call it 2012's best film.  I still have a couple big ones to get to (namely Amour and Rust & Bone).  It is innovative, creative, bold, flashy, violent, sexy, and terrifying.  Written and directed by Leos Carax & starring Denis Lavant (easily giving the best performance of the year), Holy Motors jumps off the screen into your imagination permanently.  And does so in a way that many of the year's "best" films failed to.  This is something new, something experimental... This is for anyone who finds themselves bored with the conventions of narrative reality in contemporary cinema.  It's in no way a light film... don't watch it without patience and an open mind.  Or watch it to see Eva Mendez and Kylie Monogue get in the cleanest movie of either of their careers.

Jacques Renault - Back To You (Paradis Remix)

Parisian duo, Paradis, get loose with this new Jacques Renault track.  Paradis have a flair for the longer track; this track clocks in at over nine minutes.  Full of crackling synth, hisses, and blaring horns - the fractured architecture of music - their music pulls in the chaos to build the huge emotive landscapes.

“Back To You” is scheduled to drop on January 14 as a 12″, with the digital download coming on January 28. You can also preview the original tune here.
