Johnny Jewel - SYMMETRY: THEMES FOR AN IMAGINARY FILM

SYMMETRY / THEMES FOR AN IMAGINARY FILM by JOHNNY JEWEL
If you’ve seen Drive, Nicolas Winding Refn‘s arthouse noir, you’ll probably agree that the track "Nightcall" immediately and effectively set the tone for the entire film. Music turned out to play an unexpectedly important role in the movie. Johnny Jewel, the mastermind behind Drive‘s brilliant soundtrack and part of the featured Chromatics and Desire, just released Symmetry: Themes for an Imaginary Film. At 2.5 hours long, it’s every bit as 80′s synth-driven as the real film score. Track listing after the jizza.

Drive

After being nominated for the Palm d'Or and director Nicolas Winding Refn taking home Best Director at Cannes, Drive has continued to make the festival rounds and has generated more hype at every stop. As the film festival circuit slows down, a general release date has finally been slated for release on September 16th. Usually I am not one to get excited off of pure hype and a trailer, but this movie is a little different. The director, Nicolas Winding Refn, is a part of the Danish wave invading the movie industry and was at the helm of two of my personal favorite films, Pusher and Bronson...he knows how to make stylish, bad ass movies. In addition to the crew, this movie has a hell of a cast including Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman and Bryan Cranston. Apparently this film got a standing ovation at Cannes and, sorry Terrence Malick, not one boo. I'm gonna put myself out there and say don't sleep on this.
