Lil Niqo - Ok Then

This bro is 10 years old and the youngest artist to ever get signed, and not to just any label, but Def Jam.

Drake - Marvin's Room Official Video

Lately, anything Drake related seems to be building the aura for his upcoming album, Take Care. His new image seems to be heavily influenced by The Weeknd, including his recent photography.

Love

The night was almost over. Sweaty, happy and heartbroken young lesbians were all that remained, taking in the moist smell of the scene. And this came on. My mind was blown. I hope yours is too.

The Dopest Basketball Court is in Munich

"A regulation-sized basketball court was erected on the grove-like forecourt of the school building of the occupational school. The court consists of a soft orange-red tartan covering and two normed baskets and seems to be forced over the grid of the lamps that have been set up. The playable court has been “morphed” as in a 3D program on a computer and looks like the grounds of a rollercoaster, with heights and depths and calm and dynamic zones. The resulting paradox, which moves between a normative set of rules and pleasurable, anarchic change, requires creative engagement for its use." -Inges Idee

Throwback Thursday Presents: Aaliyah - Try Again

THIS used to be on the radio. The fucking radio. Think about it, Rhianna.

EYE KNOW- De La Soul

Throwback Thursday! A classic cut from a classic group. Let De La Soul brighten your day:

13 Assassins

The film is a remake of Eiichi Kudo’s 1963 black-and-white Japanese film of the same name.  13 is directed by Takashi Miike, whose notoriety has not only come from his high quality films, but also from his controversial ultra-violent material.  It's a samurai epic based on a true incident... the film was produced by Toshiaki Nakazawa, who also produced the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film Departures.
Trailer below if you're an athiest:

Katie Kim - Pause

Katie Kim is a band comprised of a singer, Katie Sullivan, and a pianist and a cellist. I stumbled upon her delicious voice only today. Here is what the critic's have said about her debut album Twelve:

"Katie Kim - Twelve - the debut solo album from katie sullivan is a beautifully intimate collection of songs centred around sullivans beautifully husky voice. The album has a similar kind of intimacy to the likes of Mazzy Star with hints of the early aggression of PJ Harvey or the more folky based late night feel of Cat Power. The album features some lovely background instrumentation with subtle touches of slide guitar, brushed drums and mellow electronic effects. Its that kind of eclectic collection that reminds of the glory days of labels like 4AD and their collaborative This Mortal Coil projects. It really is a wonderful collection of laid back late night sounds featuring a voice to die for "

SBTRKT - Wildfire (Official Video)

SBRKT's debut album dropped and all of earth (tuned in) was hyped off this track most. Drake even spit a verse. So it goes without saying that the Gods would plug you earthlings with the visual featuring mirrors, legs, arms, walls, all sweating, during a series of paranormal activities.

Seiji - Yesman

This is the Japanese music producer, Seiji. He also plays the bass in the band, Tokyo Jihen.. so its nathan. The rhythm is befuddled and the message is consistent. Vibing isn't a choice with Seiji... it's a demand. Civilian

I Love Dom

Dom Kennedy releases his debut album: From The Westside With Love 2. This is the hottest track off it. You'll prolly get sprung.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Werner Herzog, who legendary French filmmaker François Truffaut once called, "the most important film director alive", Cave of Forgotten Dreams plunges it's audience into the Chauvet caves of Southern France, capturing the oldest known pictorial creations of humankind in their natural setting.  The 3D made Steezie Coltrane sick and it kind of feels like you just got out of the craziest cave in the world after you walk out the theater.  The music is hella heavy and often Herzog chooses just to roll dope shots of the paintings in the caves over music.  He talks with the world's leading scientists and art historians about the cultural significance of the caves and you really start to relish each image more and more as you begin to understand how valuable these caves (discovered in 1994 by a group of three speleologists: Eliette Brunel-Deschamps, Christian Hillaire, and Jean-Marie Chauvet, for whom it was named) are to humanity.  Pretty much nobody will ever be allowed in there in the future so the film is much like going to visit the art as if it were a museum.

Fucked Up: Queen of Hearts [Matador]

Fucked Up released their third studio album this month, David Comes To Life.  It's a punk-rock opera set in Thatcherite Britain in the late 70's.  The story is complicated by misdirection and unreliable narrators.  It has received wide critical acclaim.  Directed by Scott Cudmore.

Samiyam - Sam Baker's Album

Brainfeeder's latest drop is the sophomore effort from Samiyam. While he isn't a very familiar name (outside of his collaboration with his close friend FlyLo, FLYamSAM), this record feels like the one that's gonna propel him into the bigtime. The lowkey minimalist electronica is definitely reminiscent of other acts on the label, but it's fresh and it bumps. Roll the windows down and let it alter your mindset.

Get the album here, or head over to NPR to sample the whole thing first.

Araabmuzik- Electronic Dream

To follow up on that vid of him in the studio, the new Araabmuzik album Electronic Dream is up on iTunes. The title's a good description of the sound, as it's closer to dreamy trance music than the typical instrumental hip-hop album.

Danny Daze - Your Everything feat. Louisahhh

Another massive house track that's holding residency in a bunch of top DJs' sets. This time the love comes via Hot Creations, the brainchild of killer selectors Jamie Jones and Lee Foss. Apparently (since I wasn't there this year.. fml), this track was omnipresent at WMC 2011 in Miami. Just another reason to flock to Florida next March.. see y'all there? Catch a whiff of the action by scoping out below 'Your Everything' by Danny Daze, featuring vocals by Louisahhh:

Drake & The Weeknd - Trust Issues (JAYBeatz Mashup)

This is on OVO's blog. The Gods feel that it's tighter than the remix he dropped solo a second ago. The mash is by JAYbeatz. He sample's "I'm On One" in there too.

Hol' Up - Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar had a huuuuge last year. His album Overly Dedicated jumped into virtually everyone's rotation and he got recognition from mainstream media as he was named to XXL's 2011 Freshmen of the Year list. His new album Section.80 is slated for release on July 2nd, and the hype is already building bigtime. The newest joint is the laidback Hol' Up

"A Guide to the Shetland Islands"

Usually tourist guides are filled with ridiculous pictures designed to lure "typical" travelers. David Cooper took his assignment for the Shetland Islands tourism bureau and decided to use the guide as a vehicle for art. Ultimately, he makes the Shetland Islands seem fucking awesome...despite the fact that there is barely anything to do there.

Earl Sweatshirt Still Thinks His Mom's A Cunt

For those who remember the great piece posted by doc about Earl and the corresponding New Yorker article, well, perhaps it's time to call shenanigans. Tyler Craven, a Virginia native who attended Coral Reef Academy in Samoa with Earl, did an interview with Complex about Earl (who he knows and refers to by his government name, Thebe) and life at the boarding school. It's a must read interview as it dives in to life at the school, the relationship between Craven and Earl, and much more. Here are a few parts that I found particularly interesting:

Complex: What would he say about Odd Future and Tyler?

Tyler Craven: He called Tyler his brother and said that they'd do anything for each other. He talked about the OF swag. About the atheist, murderous, wildass fuck mentality they got and we all love. But you can't just be told about his unique style. You gotta see it. He was really humble about his prodigy status, though. He honestly just called his mom a cunt and a bitch repeatedly for sending him there. He would just say, “Who does that?” Especially knowing who he is. He really didn’t know why he was sent there. He knew his mom's reason for doing it, but he was very far from understanding it. There is no understanding it because it doesn’t make sense.

Maxwell D - Gone Away (Jamie xx remix)

At about the time "Far Nearer" officially dropped, Diplo tweeted something like "This dude Jamie must be from Trinidad, he fucks with the steel drum heavy." This was obviously true at the time. But the more I listen to his music, the more I realize this man is real tropical with it. Peep this track above released in January and consider his style.

STS - STSisGOLD

STS (Sugar Tongue Slim) drops a cut from his soon to be released LP The Illustrious. If you want more, I recommend Demand More 2. I went ahead and threw in the first track of his that got me into him after the jump.

TiRon & Ayomari - Du Gör Mig Bra (You Complete Me)

TiRon & Ayomari do work to a Jonesin For Sum Comfort Food produced track. The producers are Swedish, hence the title. Jive with me.

Blue Valentine

My cousin Alex Atkins' told me about this movie in December, but it was only playing in like NY and LA. His teacher produced it so he got put on it. I could never get my hands on it in Europe, but I finally watched it last night.  Both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams (who got nominated for best actress for her performance) are incredible.  Some of the best acting and chemistry I have ever seen.  No exaggeration.  They lived in a house for a month with this little girl before the film for preperation and worked on developing their characters (Williams for 6 years before they shot the film and Gosling for 5).  Filmmaker Derek Cianfrance penned the script and directed, but he has a kind of voyeuristic style... like he just kicks it and watches.  In the bonus features of the DVD, Ryan Gosling compares him to a National Geographic photographer who waits in a tree for like 5 days just to get a shot of a bird.  One of the most powerful scenes of the film is when Gosling sings with a Ukulele.  He has a band called Dead Man's Bones.  All the music in the movie is by Grizzly Bear though.  It's worth checking out... i cannot recommend the movie enough.  See the trailer after the jump if you're a bitch.

Washed Out- Amor Fati

Washed Out - Amor Fati (not the video) from Sub Pop Records on Vimeo.

Washed Out's long awaited debut LP Within and Without is out July 12 on Sub Pop. "Amor Fati" is a bit of a departure from the hazy production on his first EP, but shows that he's still capable of making blissed out pop.

It's official, Theophilus London has blown up. After receiving nonstop critical aclaim but somehow managing to hide from mainstream attention, dude is taking off. In preparation for release of his new album (Timez are Weird These Days, which is slated for release this July), Theophilus dropped the video for his single "Last Name London". His ability to mix contemporary music with a throwback almost 80's vibe is catching on, and the cosign from MTV is gonna throw him on the charts real quick. Jonti - Firework Spraying Moon

This track served as my introduction to Jonti. I gotta say Stones Throw Records has been fucking killing it for some time now, and this dude is the next in line to hit it pretty big. His disjointed beats are pretty perfect for summer and the video is absolute class. Unfortunately, this sub 2-minute track isn't much beyond a teaser, but it is without a doubt enough to make sure I'm keeping an eye out for what comes next.

Kelis - Brave (Dark Sky remix)

Dark Sky the name of three producers out of London. The production group is on the label, Pictures Music.

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

Last month the Fleet Foxes released their much awaited sophomore album Helplessness Blues. After all the delays and setbacks in its release, I must admit I was a little skeptical about whether it was gonna hit as hard as their debut. They did not disappoint, the album is brilliant from start to finish with all the harmonies and folky instrumentation you could want. Here's a little taste, but you should without a doubt give the rest a listen.

Fleet Foxes - Grown Ocean from Fleet Foxes on Vimeo.

Breakbot feat. Ruckazoid - Fantasy

Breakbot has been a favorite of mine for a while now. If you like a little funky disco-y electronica he's gonna be your kinda guy. And let's be honest, if you make a video with a girl this naked and this beautiful, it's not gonna be hard to get viewers.

Keep your eye out for Breakbot in the future and check out his other stuff here.

The Glitch Mob - Drive It Like You Stole It (Remix ft. King Fantastic)

When you listen to The Glitch Mob you can have it both ways. It's an awesome instrumental without lyrics, but King Fantastic adds an element that you thought belonged there all along: rap. Put them together and you have the perfect combo. Take a listen:

I'm gunna say this once on here... I FUCKIN HATE TRAILERS. They fuck you up. They create obnoxious expectations, give away crucial moments and lines and often set a tone that the movie doesn't hold.  That being said... a lot of people don't want to risk investing themselves in something for two hours without doing a little preliminary research.  I understand that... but watching the trailer is not the only way. Look at some photographs and read a 1 sentence synopsis... and if you're getting a recommendation from a Plug God--- HAVE FAITH.  "drama film about a feud between two sets of half-brothers following the death of their father in rural Arkansas"
Here's the trailer for all you fuckin civilians that don't know what's good for you...

Recently, Battles dropped a new album under the name Gloss Drop. It's good. I saw them live at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona; where they played close to all of their new material. Jesse Boykins III - Prototype 3010, A Short Film

In a time where life is often guided by misconception and tainted love its hard to truly find someone who is there for you for all the right reasons. No matter how you deliver your heart to a person, you still have to wait for them to open it up. I came up with this concept to inspire honesty. I've learned through life, communication is everything when you're in a relationship. Take these visuals as an example of how something could be if there is no truth between two parties. She/He is your prototype and could be so much more if you allow it. Never Take The Love Of Your Believer For Granted.  Much Thanks to Andre 3000

M.I.A. - Born Free (Official Video)

M.I.A.'s "Born Free" video has turned some heads and gotten her music banned in some countries.  It was written by M.I.A. and directed by French director Romain Gavras.  This shit has been widely described as political allegory, drawing parallels to many indigenous resistance movements around the world.
During the film, a mural is seen depicting armed red-headed men and the slogan "Our day will come", the historic motto of the Irish Republican Army. Also depicted are keffiya-wearing red-headed young people who throw rocks and glass bottles at the armored vehicles transporting the detainees, in an apparent reference to the iconic images of the Second Palestinian "Intifada".
