She (Official Video) - Tyler, the Creator

Tyler the Creator - She (featuring Frank Ocean) from MacDre on Vimeo.

One of my favorites off of Tyler, the Creator's GOBLIN. Like 'Yonkers', Tyler directed the video for 'She', himself. What do yal think?

Is this video pushing the boundaries of the standard teenage love affair video?
Do you think Tyler will have a successful career as a video director?
What was your favorite track off GOBLIN?

  1. I think the video is fresh and creative, and clearly low budget. I thought the shot of him at the window when the lightening strikes was cool. then the dolly into frank ocean singing in the oriental shirt and fishermans hat was really clean and it's haunting as fuck when he points and says "hes at your window". The shots of tyler goin crazy on his bike a little later is also super fresh. He's clearly talented in the same way he's talented as a rapper. not for having the most flow but for being himself and being provacative and cool. as a filmmaker his style is far from seamless but works well with the song and is more a collection of stunts he knows how to execute. he doesnt bite off more than he can chew... and that kind of modesty (if you can call it that) is one reason Tyler is cool. he doesn't try to do too much artistically. I am curious to see how he will push his limits in the future.

I hate the love affair question haha. I think he will touch a lot of odd future videos... and consequently will be successful, but not because he is stylistically revolutionary. My fav track is still Yonkers. But She is great too... I think frank ocean offsets Tyler's harshness in a really nice way. (kind of the same way the piano on Bastard works well too). I hope to see at least one more video for Goblin.

  2. The video is fresh to me as well. I love the consistency of the thematic elements to this 'wolf haley' guy, i.e. black eyes, mask, etc. He is able to constantly show his true colors, in these two forms. The crazy side of him, or maybe just the side that aches for this girl, is seen at her bedside, wolf haley, etc. The other side, seems to be the side that imagines what wolf haley would do to the girl. Same characters existed in Yonkers, but it was much more of a self-destructive approach.

The video makes me feel hella young, hah.
